 Double-Sided Foam Adhesive Tape (VHB – Very High Bond)

• 3M VHB 5952 is a high-performance double-sided acrylic foam tape designed for permanent bonding of metals, plastics and composite materials. It replaces mechanical fasteners like screws, rivets and welds in many applications.
• Its conformable closed-cell foam core absorbs vibration, fills surface gaps and delivers exceptional holding strength compared to standard tapes.
• Excellent peel, shear and dynamic load resistance make it ideal for structural bonding tasks where reliability matters.

Step 1: Surface Preparation

• Make sure both surfaces are clean, dry and free of oils, dust or contaminants.
• Use isopropyl alcohol to clean metals and plastics. For powder-coated or LSE substrates, light abrasion improves bond strength.

Step 2: Tape Application

• Cut the required length of VHB 5952.
• Remove the liner and apply the tape to the first substrate with firm, even pressure to activate adhesive contact.
• Keep the tape continuous to avoid stress points.

Step 3: Bonding

• Remove the liner from the exposed side.
• Position and align the second substrate carefully, then press firmly to ensure complete wet-out of adhesive.
• Use a roller or hand pressure across the full bond area.

Step 4: Curing / Set Time

• Initial handling strength is achieved immediately, but full strength builds over 72 hours.
• Higher pressure and warm temperatures accelerate curing. Avoid stressing the joint during build-up period.

Step 5: Storage & Handling

• Store in a cool, dry environment (20–25 °C recommended).
• Keep rolls sealed when not in use to preserve adhesive performance.
• When die-cutting, note the foam core thickness (about 1.1 mm) and liner behavior during release.
